Author Spotlight: Melanie Dickerson

Hello everyone. It is a new month and time for a new author spotlight. Today I want to look at one of my favorite fairy tale re-telling authors. Melanie Dickerson is the author of the Hagenheim series. Each standalone book focuses on one fairy tale twisted to fit in the Hagenheim castle family. This family is German and the stories reflect that. The newest will be a Mulan retelling. (Side note: I read it and its adorable.)

Each story focuses on a child of the Duke and we see the past characters showing up down the line with their futures and children and one big happy family.

If fairy tale retelling are up your alley and you enjoy ones that have such a twist you can see the original but it is completely different. I highly recommend that you try out her stories. I will blurb the first one below and you can take it from there.

Hagenheim Series Book 1: The Healer’s Apprentice

Two Hearts. One Hope.

Rose has been appointed as a healer’s apprentice at Hagenheim Castle, a rare opportunity for a woodcutter’s daughter like her. While she often feels uneasy at the sight of blood, Rose is determined to prove herself capable. Failure will mean returning home to marry the aging bachelor her mother has chosen for her—a bloated, disgusting merchant who makes Rose feel ill.

When Lord Hamlin, the future duke, is injured, it is Rose who must tend to him. As she works to heal his wound, she begins to understand emotions she’s never felt before and wonders if he feels the same. But falling in love is forbidden, as Lord Hamlin is betrothed to a mysterious young woman in hiding. As Rose’s life spins toward confusion, she must take the first steps on a journey to discover her own destiny.
