Advent Calendar: Day 2

BB B11 (2)

Welcome to Day 2 of my holiday calendar. Each day a new book, giveaway, or spotlight. Today we will look at two of my favorite new holiday reads. These are books I just read and loved.

Keep in mind that most holiday romances are cheesy, and you are basically just reading a Hallmark plot book. With that here we go!

A Candy Cane Kiss

By Maggie Dallen

42615418

Synopsis:

Fake kisses shouldn’t taste so sweet.

When the new star quarterback at Briarwood High winds up in the hospital over Christmas break, he’s sure that’s as bad as it can get.
He’s wrong. His day is about to get so much worse. First he’s stuck with that irritating new girl from school who’s currenly dressed as a holly jolly Christmas elf as she volunteers on his floor. Then his ex shows up and asks his permission to bring her new boyfriend to his family’s Christmas party, and then…well, then he makes it all a million times worse by kissing the closest girl at hand, who just happens to be that weirdo candy striper with a penchant for Grandma cardigans and candy-cane striped tights. She also happens to be the only girl at Briarwood who doesn’t like him. He couldn’t have chosen a worse fake girlfriend if he’d tried. So the question is…if this relationship is all wrong, why does it feel so right?

Lola is a self-proclaimed freak and a military brat just waiting to graduate so she can take the first bus out of Briarwood. She’s also more than a little obsessed with all things retro. Including swing dancing. The only problem? Swing dancing requires a partner. Where on earth is she supposed to find a willing dance partner in the sea of conformist mediocrity that is her new high school? Fortunately for her, the arrogant jerk in the hospital bed needs her more than she needs him if he stands any chance of winning back his ex. So yeah, she’ll help him. For a price. But the closer they get, the more she hates the idea of handing him over to his perfect ex, and the more she has to wonder. Will she be the one paying the price…with a broken heart?

Review:

A feel good holiday romance about two teens from completely different social circles. I adore this book. I got it as a recommendation from an author and immediately read it. While it says it is part of a series you do NOT have to read any of the others. They are all stand alone. It is silly, predictable, and downright holiday cheer.

My New Crush Gave to Me

Synopsis:

Charlotte Charlie Donovan knows exactly what she wants for Christmas: Teo Ortiz. He’s the school’s star athlete, in the National Honor Society, invited to every party, contributes to the school paper (where Charlie is co-editor), and is about to be featured as One to Watch in a teen magazine basically, he’s exactly the type of guy Charlie s meant to be with. The only problem he barely knows she exists.

But Charlie is determined to be Teo’s date to the Christmas ball. And she has a plan: To rig the paper’s Secret Santa so that she can win his heart with five perfect gifts. But to do that she needs help. Enter J.D. Ortiz Teo s cousin, and possibly the most annoying person on the planet. He’s easy going, laid back, unorganized, spontaneous, and makes a joke out of everything the exact opposite of Charlie (and Teo). But he’s willing to provide insight into what Teo wants, so she s stuck with him.

Yet, the more time Charlie spends with J.D., the more she starts to wonder: Does she really know what, or rather who, she wants for Christmas?

Review:

A sweet romance that shows sometimes the person you think your meant to be with may not be perfect. As a Christmas romance this is pretty adorable and hits all the top points of cheer and Christmas cheer. my only problem was with how anal the main girl was. it was almost annoying. I read this one last Christmas and it is still adorable.

  1. I just started My New Crush Gave To Me yesterday! So far I’m liking it a lot. I’m definitely checking out The Candy Cane Kiss. The holiday season either needs to be longer or I need to read faster, because I LOVE cheesey Christmas romances (and Hallmark/Netflix romance movies). 😉

  2. Ooh, I definitely want to try reading at least one of these! My favourite holiday book is Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares and I’m thinking of rereading that too.
