Today I want to focus on my most anticipated reads for 2019. Some I have had the pleasure to read and some I am waiting anxiously to be released. So lets go!
White Stag by Kara Barbieri
Publishes Jan 8 2019
As the last child in a family of daughters, seventeen-year-old Janneke was raised to be the male heir. While her sisters were becoming wives and mothers, she was taught to hunt, track, and fight. On the day her village was burned to the ground, Janneke—as the only survivor—was taken captive by the malicious Lydian and eventually sent to work for his nephew Soren.
Janneke’s survival in the court of merciless monsters has come at the cost of her connection to the human world. And when the Goblin King’s death ignites an ancient hunt for the next king, Soren senses an opportunity for her to finally fully accept the ways of the brutal Permafrost. But every action he takes to bring her deeper into his world only shows him that a little humanity isn’t bad—especially when it comes to those you care about.
Through every battle they survive, Janneke’s loyalty to Soren deepens. After dangerous truths are revealed, Janneke must choose between holding on or letting go of her last connections to a world she no longer belongs to. She must make the right choice to save the only thing keeping both worlds from crumbling.
Why I am excited:
I got a chance to read this from Netgalley and it was so impressive! The story was so different than anything I had read before. The plot twisted and turned and while I didn’t go in expecting to like it I really did love it. If you enjoy fae, twists, darkness, and overcoming the odds then you should go check this one out. It comes out in Jan!
Blood Heir by Amélie Wen Zhao
Publishes June 4, 2019
The Cyrilian Empire: a glittering white sprawl of frozen tundras and ancient, snow-capped forests, where ice spirits roam beneath the flickering northern lights, and where slavers hunt Affinites — those born with powers to manipulate elements.
Born with an horrifying Affinity to blood, Anastacya Mikhailov has never believed herself to be anything more than a monster. Her curse rings true when an accident in the dead of the night results in the death of her father, the Emperor of Cyrilia — and she is sentenced for his murder.
But Ana knows what she saw that night: the scent of poison in Papa’s blood, and the face of a murderer vanishing into the dark.
Alone, hunted, and on the run, Ana makes a bargain with Ramson Quicktongue, a handsome yet dangerous underground crime lord: help her find the true murderer and clear her name in exchange for her alliance.
Why I am excited:
Another one that I had the awesome chance to read in ARC form. I got an early copy from a friend who went to Yallfest. Told from opposing POV this book is long. The world building requires the length. The plot was fantastic but it was so long. But it’s book 1 in the series and we all know what that means. The Affinities were something that really got me into the book. I wish they had more of a presence. It was great and interesting the slow burn enemies to lovers is a favorite trope of mine.
The Deceiver’s Heart by Jennifer Nielson

THIS IS THE SECOND IN THE SERIES. IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE FIRST GO DO THAT! The Traitor’s Game
If you have read the first one lets fangirl/boy together. Because The Traitors Game was one of my top reads.
In this sequel to the instant New York Times bestseller The Traitor’s Game, Kestra Dallisor has finally gained possession of the Olden Blade. With the dagger in her control, she attempts to destroy the tyrannical Lord Endrick. But when Kestra fails, the king strips her of her memory, and leaves her weak and uncertain, bound to obey him. Heartbroken, Simon is desperate to return Kestra to the rebel she was, but refuses to use magic to heal her. With untrusting Coracks and Halderians threatening to capture and kill her, and war looming on the horizon, Kestra and Simon will have to learn to trust each other again if they have any hope of surviving. But can a heart once broken ever be healed?
Why I am excited:
I am so excited for this. I have the ARC but honestly I am scared to read it because I don’t want it to be bad. But i know I will love it. So this is one that everyone should take a chance on!
