Hello followers new and old. I am again doing something a bit different today. I recently read an anticipated book and I didn’t like it. I mean I skimmed through half of it because I just wanted to finish it. So here is a NON SPOILER review/thoughts on said book. Fair warning most people loved this book. So I apologize if you did but hey we can’t all love the same things right?
All sorcerers are evil. Elisabeth has known that as long as she has known anything. Raised as a foundling in one of Austermeer’s Great Libraries, Elisabeth has grown up among the tools of sorcery—magical grimoires that whisper on shelves and rattle beneath iron chains. If provoked, they transform into grotesque monsters of ink and leather. She hopes to become a warden, charged with protecting the kingdom from their power.
Then an act of sabotage releases the library’s most dangerous grimoire. Elisabeth’s desperate intervention implicates her in the crime, and she is torn from her home to face justice in the capital. With no one to turn to but her sworn enemy, the sorcerer Nathaniel Thorn, and his mysterious demonic servant, she finds herself entangled in a centuries-old conspiracy. Not only could the Great Libraries go up in flames, but the world along with them.
Alright guys. I promise no spoilers. So there is no need to fear. But that does not mean I won’t be blunt ( I mean it is my blogs name). Here so we.
First off the first two pages reminded me of Elise Kova’s Air Awakens that it felt like the author just changed a few words and put that as the beginning. That immediately rubbed me the wrong way. But nevertheless I kept reading. By the 15th page I knew this would not be a book I enjoyed. It was repetitive and the main character had almost no depth. This was when I started skimming.
The romance was laughable. Albeit better than her last book. I have a lot of thoughts on that book (not one of them great). So I mean maybe I was biased because I already didn’t really like the writing?
Overall I was bored, annoyed, and couldn’t figure out what everyone loved so much about this book. I know people said they cried and felt lots of things. All I felt was that maybe I was missing something important.
Now I can’t ruin the book ( I would never do that) so I will have to wait till more people have read the book to maybe try it again? Maybe I didn’t give it a fair shake? Who knows. But the truth is I don’t really want to read it again.
If you have read it feel free to message me on twitter. Until then I will just wait for it to release to come back to this.
